qualificationsMA (Hons) Dip. Arch

background

Alasdair trained at the University of Edinburgh School of Architecture and qualified, with honours, in 1997. He first entered practice as an architectural assistant in London and qualified as an architect in 1999 and worked on a variety of community projects. Following a period of travel throughout Australasia and Indonesia, and work as an architect in New Zealand, he joined macmon in September 2005 as a project architect and became an associate in 2007.

Alasdair is currently the project architect for the redevelopment of The State Hospital in Carstairs. A particular concern has been the development of a design which responds to the particular needs of this patient group whilst also maximising the use of daylight and natural ventilation. His involvement in generating a very site-specific design has become a major interest; the buildings provide shelter in many ways on what is a very exposed site.

Alasdair’s strength lies in his ability to respond imaginatively to the complex design and technical challenges inherent in modern education, healthcare and mixed use buildings.
