Competition organised by RIBA for a high-quality and environmentally friendly housing development in Letchworth Garden City.
Letchworth Garden City is a popular commuter town, near London, with 35,000 inhabitants. It was the world’s first Garden City in the early 1900’s, based on the vision of inventor and social reformer Ebenezer Howard who wanted to create a community with affordable housing which would combine the best elements of town and country.
The challenge faced by Letchworth Garden City today is to provide low-cost, environmentally friendly and affordable housing that will allow a sustainable expansion of its community.
