This new mental health hospital is part of a wide master plan for the development of the Gartnavel hospital site in Glasgow. The hospital provides single rooms with en-suite toilet facilities for patients, smaller wards, improved clinical and therapeutic areas and better educational facilities. In total, there are 117 inpatients beds spread into three adult wards, two elderly wards and one intensive psychiatric care unit.

Courtyard spaces, landscaping, natural light and ventilation have been incorporated into the design to create an attractive environment for patients and staff.

macmon and Robertson worked closely with NHS staff, technical advisers and patient representatives to finalise the detailed design.
